Rock Climbing

So, today was a pretty interesting day. For my Outdoor Pursuits class, we headed down the the ARC to do some rock climbing on the indoor wall. We had been spending the last several weeks preparing for this by learning how to tie nots, belay, back up the belayer, and the responsibilities of the actual climber. It all paid off today. It was an enlightening experience finally getting to belay and climb for real instead of just tying the rope onto a pull-up bar in the wrestling room of the Fieldhouse.

This was my first time indoor rock climbing, so I was really determined to tackle this wall. I ended up making it the whole way to the top! I felt a great sense of accomplishment after reaching the top. It's one of those feelings where you know you're going to want to do the activity form now on. I can't wait until I get strapped into another harness to tackle that wall again.

  1. I remember taking outdoor pursuits and going rock climbing. All the preparation is worth the wait because once you actually get to climb the wall it's pretty intense. I loved saying cues like "on Belay, Belay on" or "Climbing, Climb on". This class taught me a lot from tying knots to doing our scrapbooks.

  2. For starters I just want to say that you came up with a very clever blog name, definitely made me laugh. I remember the day that we got to go rock climbing at the ARC as well for my outdoor pursuits class. I am glad you enjoyed the experience and I hope you learn as much as I did in that class. The portfolio that you put together will be an asset down the road. Great job making it all the way to the top and I hope you get to go climbing again soon.

  3. Outdoor Pursuits was such a fun class all the way around. It gives people opportunities for a number of different activities that they may never have had the chance to try. I also enjoyed the rock climbing section because it was something that was brand new to me and gave such a feeling of accomplishment once you make the climb. I also hope to climb again in the near future.

  4. I loved Outdoor Pursuits! I'm jealous, I wish I could retake it. I loved doing the climbing wall. I wish that we would have had time to do the high ropes course too. But I liked learning all of the knots and getting to apply them! Great job getting to the top...now you have to take Mr. Smith's rock climbing class so you can go out and climb in nature!
